Spend the Summer with BackType and True Ventures

Looking for the perfect summer job? Planning to start a company when you graduate? Want to know what it's like to work in a fast-paced, Silicon Valley startup? Look no further! BackType is hiring a student this summer to take part in the True Entrepreneur Corps.

What is it?

We?re introducing the True Entrepreneur Corps (TEC) in hopes that one small effort can build resources for the early stage ecosystem and foster the spirit of possibility in tomorrow?s entrepreneurs.

TEC is a program for college students to join True and our portfolio for the summer. Students will work directly at one of our companies for the summer, and they will participate in a robust program of speakers designed to expose TEC participants to the top trends, methods, and innovators in the early stage markets. TEC participants will be hand picked from universities across the US and matched to specific and identified needs in our portfolio. True covers the cost of the TEC folks for our companies, so for the portfolio founders this is a source of free, very talented, motivated labor. For the students, we hope that our platform can expose them to the world of startups and innovation early-on in their education. Our goal is to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with experience and resources that could impact their career at an early age.

What would you actually do?

We believe in creating an environment that attracts a rare type of person -- the type of person that wants to change the world and takes a radically different approach to responsibility. We don't manage each other: we make sure the best ideas win, regardless of "seniority". If you join us, you'll have a significant impact on the way we think, what we build, and where we go.

Our main challenge at BackType is uncovering accurate realtime insights into online social media. We index incredibly large amounts of online conversation, sharing, and social graph data in realtime. Processing and understanding this information involves both realtime and offline analysis. On top of these challenges we have products that serve close to one billion monthly requests and reach millions. To make this possible we work with a mix of traditional technology and bleeding edge software: from Memcached, Nginx, MySQL and Python to Hadoop, Clojure, Cassandra and Thrift.

In addition to working with us you would be spending one day a week with True Ventures learning from some of the best investors in the country. The TEC blog from last summer will give you a great idea of what to expect.
